Over the past 20 years the Asian shore crab Hemigrapsus sanguineus has colonised intertidal habitats of northern Europe, such as the rocky shores of the island of Helgoland (German Bight). Photos by Uwe Nettelmann.
Gimenez et al. combined laboratory experiments with field observation to explore whether larval phenology would predict distribution limits and range expansion in Hemigrapsus sanguineus. They found that larval phenology explained predicted further poleward expansion along the shores of north Europe.Download high resolution file: ecog_43_10_cover.pdf
