I am a geoecologist and ecological modeller, currently based at the Humboldt-University Berlin, Germany, and guest research at the Swiss Federal Research Institute WSL, Switzerland. My research is generally guided by ecological and biodiversity theory and integrates statistical and mechanistic modelling approaches with empirical data (1) to understand and model biodiversity patterns at different spatial and temporal scales and (2) to make quantitative predictions of potential future biodiversity dynamics. Model development, refinement and testing are an integral part of my work. Because of these goals, most current projects focus on data-rich systems, specifically on terrestrial plants and birds as well studied representatives of sedentary and mobile species groups, respectively.
