A turkey vulture Cathartes aura, perched on a branch. Turkey vultures locate carrion with their excellent vision and sense of smell and are daytime foragers due to their dependency on thermals. They utilize roosts both overnight and during other times of day. This study demonstrates using the R package recurse to identify turkey vulture roosts and examine the spatiotemporal patterns of their visitation. Photo by Shawn P. Carey (Migration Productions).
