The consumption of animal carcasses by scavengers, like these bigeye trevally (Caranx sexfasciatus), is a pivotal process in all ecosystems. Urban environments can provide habitat for scavengers, and we show that moderate levels of urbanisation supplement this key ecological function in estuarine seascapes. Photo by Andrew Olds.
