Atlantic Puffins (Fratercula arctica) are migratory seabirds. They often face strong winds in the open ocean. Our study investigated whether Atlantic puffins and black-legged kittiwakes (Rissa tridactyla) take advantage of winds when they migrate. We found that their main migratory routes followed prevailing winds in the North Atlantic. Kittiwakes migrated farther and had better wind support than puffins.
