A conceptual overview of the RangeShifter platform for the spatially-explicit simulation of individual-based models: The simulation runs on provided input maps that describe the landscape. It explicitly evaluates demographic and dispersal processes as well as the genetics for each individual in discrete time steps and can generate various forms of output. The new version RangeShifter 2.0 (Bocedi et al. 2021) incorporates important new functionality and is now also available in the R-package RangeShiftR (Malchow et al. 2021).
