The Parana pine (Araucaria angustifolia), an iconic keystone conifer from sub-tropical montane forests and high-elevation grasslands in southern Brazil and northern Argentina. Our study based on genomic and spatial analyses of this tree and its fossil pollen records suggests that both early humans and historical climate variations affected the distribution and abundance of Araucarias over time.
